Richie Havens
Seeker of Change

by Ellen Geisel

"Today, the only environmental movement in existence as far as I'm concerned is kids. It's the only movement that exists. Because when you go beyond that you have groups, small groups: one to just save the owl, one to just save the whale. Children want to save the whole planet and everyone on it, including the animals. So they're the only group that includes people in the environment... So we're in such good hands. You would not believe how well off the world really is!" - R.H.

What can one possibly say about a voice that cuts across the boundaries of musical tastes? A voice closely associated with an event of peace, love and harmony? One that conveys information, emotion and clarity? When one hears Richie Havens, very little rhetoric is necessary.
