Snowbound
Volume Two

Snowbound is an eclectic read about all things happening in the northern climes. Although this 'zine was apparently sent based on a common appreciation for music, the hockey stuff is much more fun to read. Included in Snowbound is a compelling story about an American expat trying to fit in and land a spot on a league team in Stockholm. Especially entertaining were reviews with chatty vignettes describing experiences various hockey venues from NHL arenas to regional rinks. Extra points for recipes, such as one for gingerbread cookies complete with DIY templates for shaping the dough into 2-D hockey player shapes, and a Finnish current events quiz! There's a too-short first-person article on Billy Bragg and short reviews on artists from Björk to Wimme. Each issue purportedly has theme content, but that prose and essay section I could have done without. Good clean, eclectic winter fun regardless of whether or not you live where the white stuff falls. Would that the kids would go to two issues annually.
